(wildifox)

I would like to express my appreciation to the club officers and members for inviting me to judge their specialty show, held in conjunction with the Somerset Hills Kennel Club. The banquet that evening was so much fun, and the lovely embroidered bag made by Linda Butsch is such a good memory of the event. My appreciation to Danielle St. Laurent for her hospitality on Friday evening, to Richard Burd for his hospitality in transporting me back to the hotel when the humidity got to me after photos, and to Kathi and Jeff Powers for providing transportation to and from the banquet.

Reviewing corgis in the grass at an outdoor show is a pleasure as the breed looks so good in a natural setting. Although it was a lovely day, the humidity was high and by the end of the morning, I could tell that the heat was unfortunately adversely affecting some of the corgis who might otherwise have placed higher in their classes.

I want to thank the breeders and exhibitors who brought me such an outstanding entry. The quality was deep in most of the classes. I had no problem finding lovely corgis with the correct outline and movement we strive to breed. My winners dog is a young dog of beautiful breed type with an outstanding head and outline and lovely movement. The bitch classes were full of lovely bitches I would love to own. I was pleased with my winners bitch, a girl in full bloom ready to finish. The Best of Breed class was breathtaking with such depth of quality. My Best of Breed winner was such a pleasure to judge with her outstanding outline and lovely face, and watching her gait around the ring with her free and easy side gait put a smile on my face. I would be pleased to own any of my winners in the final line up, and I commend breeders for breeding such quality corgis. The memory of judging your corgis will long bring a smile to my face.

1. CURIG FAERIETALE MINI COOPER (Faerietale Curig Bentley x Brumbaer’s Kick’n Back At Curig) Breeders/Owners: Susan Neave, Barbara du Pree & Juliana du Pree. This nice black headed tri boy is all about outline with good length, depth of chest and good shoulder layback. He is low to the ground with correct bone going down into tight feet. His head has very correct proportions with a good eye, and he goes around the ring with a nice, easy gait.

2. BROGAN LIGHT BRIGADE (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x GCh. Brogan Tralee) Breeder/Owner: Mari Carroll. This red and white boy has a nice outline, although I would like a shorter loin. His bone is correct and he has a nice prosternum. He has a good head with a very nice eye, but I would prefer a shorter muzzle. While he went around the ring without a lot of steps, on the day he had some bounce.

9 MONTHS AND UNDER 12 MONTHS, DOGS (2 entered, 2 absent)

12 TO 18 MONTHS, DOGS (3 entered, 1 absent)

1. JORASH CORGARD KEY LARGO (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x GCh. Jorash Key To Your Heart At Corgard) Breeders: Ellen Schusterson & Kandy Boll. Owners: Michaelann Mako, Richard Mako & Ellen Schusterson. This red and white dog has very good structure with a beautiful outline, good prosternum and strong topline. He is very balanced front to rear with a long ribcage. While he has a kind expression and generally handsome head, I would like a shorter muzzle.

2. HONEYFOX DESIGNER SILK (GCh Nchanted Silk Lining x Honeyfox Peppermint Patty) Breeders: Susan Strickland & Ruth Barker. Owners: Susan V. Feely & Dennis G. Feely. This red and white boy has a very nice expression and eye. He has good bone into nice, tight feet with a good arched neck and correct outline. He was not moving out for his handler on the day.

1. CURIG FAERIETALE JEDI KNIGHT (Ch. Martindale Black Bart x Curig Faerietale Dusky Willow) Breeders/Owners: Barbara du Pree, Juliana du Pree & Susan Neave. This exquisite red headed tri boy is a stand out for correct breed type. His outline is so correct. His head is exquisite, while not being feminine with correct proportions and lovely eyes. He has correct bone into oval feet. His length is appropriately found in his ribcage with a short loin. He is balanced front to rear which allows him to move around the ring with extension holding his level topline. I was pleased to award him WINNERS DOG and BEST OF WINNERS in this lovely entry.

2. WINDDANCER-AYLESFORD BEATING THE ODDS (GCh. Aylesford Take It From The Top @ Winddancer x Ch. Candle In The Wind At Winddancer) Breeders: Mary DeToma & Elizabeth Mercer. Owners: Mary DeToma, Elizabeth Mercer & Ann Caterson. This was also a lovely red headed tri with good length to height ratio, a lovely outline and a correct head with beautiful mascara. He, too, has good balance and went around the ring very smoothly holding his topline on the move.

3. TOWNHILL ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET (GCh. Ciregna Thats Amore x GCh. Townhill Penny Lane) Breeders/Owners: Mark Russo & Holly Russo. This red and white youngster is a lovely boy who still needs to fill out. He shows great promise with a rock solid topline, good shoulder, and correct bone into tight feet. His head proportions are good and he went around the ring well.

4. LOST RIVER LIL BIT ROCK N ROLL (GCh. Lost River’s I Think I Can x Honeyfox Come Go With Me) Breeders: Shawn Michael & Susan Strickland. Owner:Shawn Michael. This young red and white boy left his coat at home. He has good bone, a good outline standing and good turn of stifle. His head proportions are good, but I would prefer a darker eye. He was not balanced on the move.

1. BROOKEHAVEN ALL DUE RESPECT (Brookehaven Strangers In The Night x Brookehaven Our Little Secret) Breeders/Owners: Kathleen Gangi & Robert Rigwood. Lovely blacked headed tri boy with a terrific outline. His head has good proportions and he has a kind eye. He has good depth of chest and a solid topline. His lovely layback in his shoulder was balanced with his rear. His ribcage is long with a short loin. He is correct size with good bone. He did not disappoint on the move. I found him very masculine without being coarse, and I was pleased to award him RESERVE WINNERS DOG in this lovely entry.

2. PEMBURY HOUSE CHIANTI (Ch. Wynfox Lion In Winter x Ch. Pembury House Nutmeg Gingham) Breeder: Sandi Eaton. Owners: Jessica Pavia, Bobbi Pavia & Sandi Eaton. Yet another lovely red headed tri male who has a lovely neck and correct bone into tight feet. He is of correct size. While he could stand high in the rear on occasion with his left front out, he held his topline on the move and was clean coming at me.

4. ASHBRYN OH HENRY (Laif Spring Random Walk x Ch. Laif Spring Golden Dream) Breeder/Owner: Katerina Kuehler. Lovely red and white masculine dog who had a level topline, good shoulder layback and correct bone going down into tight feet. He was a balanced mover with a lovely expression. I would like a little shorter muzzle on this otherwise lovely boy.

PUPPY 6 MONTHS AND UNDER 9 MONTHS, BITCHES (6 entered, 0 absent)

1. BROGAN BRIGHT LIGHT (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x GCh. Brogan Tralee) Breeder/Owner: Mari Carroll. This red and white puppy is so correct and feminine. She has a lovely outline with a good topline, good prosternum and correct bone going down into tight feet. Her ribcage is long with a short loin. Her head has correct proportions and she has a pretty expression. For one so young, she is a keen showgirl. I would love to have her in my home, and was pleased to award her BEST PUPPY.

2. RANPRI BRYNLEA GITCHI GITCHI YA YA DA DA (Ch. Ranpri Cardinal’s Tuscon x Brynlea Ranpri J’Ne Sais Quoi) Breeders: Randy Pritts & Brenda Stiles. Owner: Randy Pritts. This red headed tri girl is also an outstanding young puppy. She has a lovely outline with correct bone going into good feet. She was balanced front to rear with a long ribcage and short loin allowing her to go around the ring smoothly. On the day, I would like a little more stop on her otherwise lovely head.

3. BROGAN SWEETNESS & LIGHT (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x GCh. Brogan Tralee) Breeder/Owner: Mari Carroll. I see that this lovely red and white girl is a sister to number one. She, too, has a lovely outline with good bone into tight feet. Her head is very similar to her sister’s. She was balanced when she moved around the ring holding her level topline.

4. HOMESPUN LIGHT N’ BREEZY (GCh Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x Northrun Light Breezes II) Breeders: Ann Baker, Cathy Donovan & Carla Hellander. Owners: Annie Baker & Carla Hellander. Yet another lovely red and white puppy. She has a beautiful, long and low outline. Her length of body is in her long ribcage. While she has nice head proportions with a good expression, I would like a higher ear set. She was a bit unsettled on the move, but I was able to see a solid topline and a glimmer of extension.

12 TO 18 MONTH, BITCHES (6 entered, 1 absent)

1. HONEYFOX-WINDDANCER BAREFOOT & TOPLESS (GCh. Aylesford Take It From The Top @ Winddancer x Honeyfox Cinnamon Buns) Breeder: Susan Strickland. Owners: Jacklynn Gingerich & Mary DeToma. 2. BEAUMANOR STAR SPANGLED (Aberlee Leave It To Me x Ch. Coventry Beaumanor Love Potion) Breeders: Robin Herrick & Neil Herrick. Owner: Robin Herrick. Red and white girl with a very good outline showing off a level topline, good underline, correct bone and good height to length. I would like a shorter muzzle on her otherwise good head.

3. READFIELD & XIII MAPLES SUNDANCE (XIII Maples & Readfield Storm Of The Century x Readfield Gold Dust Woman) Breeder: Marianne Read. Owners: Ellen C. Childs & Marianne Read. Red and white with a lovely head and expression. She has a level topline with a nice short loin. While I would like to see a better shoulder on her, she used what she has very well and moved around the ring displaying balanced gait.

4. FAERIETALE CURIG ICE DANCER (Faerietale Curig Bentley x Faerietale Curig Cat Ballou) Breeders/Owners: Susan Neave, Barbara du Pree & Juliana du Pree. Pretty red and white girl who had a good outline. She was a nice size bitch with correct bone and good proportions. I would like to see more shoulder layback. That said, she surprised me when she moved smoothly around the ring. She has a lovely head and expression, but I would like to see a little larger ear.

BRED-BY-EXHIBITOR, BITCHES (3 entered, 0 absent)

1. JORASH CORGARD SUNSET KEY (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x GCh. Jorash Key To Your Heart At Corgard) Breeders: Ellen Schusterson & Kandy L. Boll. Owners: Kandy L. Boll, Ellen Schusterson & Michele Pohl. This feminine red and white girl has great scope with her beautiful outline, level topline, great arched neck and depth of chest. She has good bone density and depth of body. She has very good head proportions and a lovely eye. I admired her when I saw her in the ring earlier this year, and was not disappointed watching her go around the ring with her lovely side gait. I was pleased to award her RESERVE WINNERS BITCH in this outstanding entry.

2. REINWOOD ELECTRA GLIDE (Ch. Pembury House Be Still My Heart x Reinwood One For The Money) Breeders/Owners: Mary Elizabeth Simpson & Cathy Santarsiero. This is a lovely red and white girl with a beautiful long and low outline. Her bone is correct and she has a nice underline. She has very good head proportions and is very feminine. Unfortunately, the heat seemed to be affecting her and she was tiring at the end.

3. ACT TWO HOT STUFF (GCh. Corgard’s Stun Gun At Jorash x Ch. Act Two Sweet Mystery Of Life) Breeders/Owners: Carrie DeJan & Joan D. Healy. Immature looking red headed tri bitch who I see is under one year of age. She left her coat at home. On the day she appeared taller than the first two and not as filled out. She has a very good shoulder and topline, but needs to body out. I would prefer a shorter muzzle.

OPEN, BITCHES (7 entered, 1 absent, 1 move-up)

1. HERITAGE POWER PLAY (GCh. Hum’nbird Groundhog Day x GCh. Heritage Ever After) Breeder: Judy Pilat. Owners: Mari Carroll & Judy Pilat . Red and white bitch of exceptional quality in full bloom. She is so feminine with a lovely outline showing off a level topline, correct bone and correct size. She has a beautiful, arched neck and I love her underline. Her shoulder layback is outstanding and is matched by a correct angled stifle. Her head proportions are correct and she has a lovely, kind eye. I was pleased to award her WINNERS BITCH in this lovely competition.

2. STONECROFT’S SHORT STORY (Ch. Linincorgi’s Livin’ On A Prayer x Ch. Chetwynd Chasing Rainbows) Breeders: Kristen L. Francis & Anita Cameron. Owners: Susan Neave, Anita Cameron & Kristen Francis. 3. HARMONY ANNIE OAKLEY (GCh. Creekside Hard Workin Man x Ch. Harmony Whiskey River) Breeder: Melody A. Kist. Owners: Kathleen S. Norcia & Melody A. Kist. Red and white bitch who was taller than the two above. She has a good outline with a nice arched neck. She was balanced and went around the ring well. I would like a shorter muzzle and better shoulder layback.

4. PEMBURY HOUSE PAISLEY (Ch. Wynfox Lion In Winter x Ch. Pembury House Nutmeg Gingham) Breeders: Sandi Eaton, Julie Slowik & Mark Slowik. Owner: Sandi Eaton. Red and white bitch with a nice topline, correct bone, and very pretty eye and expression. She went around the ring well. On the day she was in her bikini, which showed her lack of balance front to rear.

GCH AUBREY’S MOON RIVER
(GCh.Heartsong Brynlea Pavarotti x Ch.Aubrey’s From This Moment)
Breeders: Cynthia M. Savioli & Vincent Savioli & Roberta Lord
Owners: Cynthia M. Savioli & Vincent Savioli
Lovely, feminine bitch with outstanding outline, side gait and head. This bitch has it all and never put a foot down wrong. While I have admired her ringside, putting my hands on her was a pleasure as all of her pieces are to the standard. She is correct size and is an outstanding bitch that breeders should strive to replicate. Her headpiece is exquisitely feminine with such a kind eye and intelligent expression. When she moved, it made me smile as all of those lovely pieces worked together for the beautiful side gait we all strive for when we breed. An outstanding bitch that I would love to own. I was pleased to award her BEST OF BREED and give a nod to her breeders for producing such an outstanding corgi.

(tromba)

This was my first specialty judging assignment, and I will always remember it fondly. Although I was very sorry to hear that the original sweeps judge, Ms. Shannon Stone was unable to make it due to a very ill dog, I was only too happy, and extremely excited to take her place. The entry was so lovely, I was thrilled to be judging the depth of quality you have here on the east coast. I was spoiled for choice and the final line up was breathtaking. My top winners were wonderful sound examples of the Pembroke in both type and movement. They certainly would be competitive in any part of the country. Thank you to PWCCGS, for the wonderful hospitality. My welcome basket was gorgeous, with many treats, and I really loved my judge’s gift of a handmade tote, personalized with my kennel name. I know I will enjoy it on many occasions. Most of all I would like to thank my hostess Bobbe Lord, who graciously opened her home to me. We had so much fun and I was made so very comfortable. It was hard to leave!

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 6 TO 9 MONTH DOGS (4 entered, 2 absent)

1. CURIG FAERIETALE MINI COOPER (Faerietale Curig Bentley x Brumbaer’s Kick’n Back At Curig) Breeders/Owners: Susan Neave, Barbara du Pree & Juliana du Pree. A very nice black headed tri puppy, who was a little rambunctious for his owner today. He is a balanced puppy. He has a very good shoulder with excellent reach and drive. He was clean coming and going. He is low stationed with strong hocks, good length of neck for his age and excellent prosternum. I was glad he settled down in the last go around, as his superior reach and drive won him the top spot.

2. BROGAN LIGHT BRIGADE (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x GCh. Brogan Tralee) Breeder/Owner: Mari Carroll. Another good quality red and white puppy with a beautiful masculine headpiece. He had a level top line upon standing, but tended to ride up on the move. He is in good coat and condition. Excellent feet. While I certainly liked this puppy, he just didn’t have quite the drive and smooth flowing side gate of the above puppy.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 9 TO 12 MONTH DOGS (3 entered, 2 absent)

1. ACT TWO STAYIN ALIVE (GCh. Corgard’s Stun Gun At Jorash x Ch. Act Two Sweet Mystery Of Life) Breeders/Owners: Carrie DeJan & Joan D. Healy. A rangy red and white puppy dog who had nice dark eyes and a lovely long neck. He went around nicely, but fell off at the croup. He could use a little more turn of stifle but has good length of body with the right amount of rib to loin.

SWEEPSTAKES 12 TO 15 MONTH DOGS (4 entered, 1 absent)

1. TOWNHILL ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET (GCh. Ciregna Thats Amore x GCh. Townhill Penny Lane) Breeders/Owners: Mark Russo & Holly Russo. This is just my kind of dog. A very balanced red and white dog, who has tremendous breed type. Excellent shoulder, prominent prosternum , good length of neck that flowed into his shoulder. A dead level back that held standing and on the move. Correct feet. He possesses a pleasing masculine head with the right proportions and pretty dark eyes. He had good length of body and excellent rib to loin proportions. His side movement was fluid and effortless. He was clean coming and going. Certainly he will do well in the future. I was very pleased to award him BEST OPPOSITE SEX IN SWEEPS.

2. TOWNHILL JORASH AUTUMN IN NEW YORK (GCh. Ciregna Thats Amore x GCh. Townhill Penny Lane) Breeders: Mark Russo & Holly Russo. Owner: Ellen Schusterson. Another high quality red and white that had the misfortune to be in the same class as the above dog. He possessed good layback of shoulder but didn’t have the length of neck as the above dog. He too has a nice headpiece just not quite the proportions of number one. He moved quite well around the ring however and has an excellent rear with good turn of stifle. I expect this boy will also have his day in the sun.

3. JORASH CORGARD KEY LARGO (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x GCh. Jorash Key To Your Hear At Corgard) Breeders: Ellen Schusterson & Kandy Boll. Owners: Michaelann Mako, Richard Mako & Ellen Schusterson. Red and white dog that did not possess the outline of the above two dogs. He was a bit shorter in body, but had correct rib to loin for his size. He has a bit longer muzzle and smaller eye than the above two. He possessed good shoulder layback and has a level top line. He tended to toe in coming at you and moved a bit close going away.

SWEEPSTAKES 15 TO 18 MONTH DOGS (2 entered, 0 absent)

1. CURIG FAERIETALE JEDI KNIGHT (Ch. Martindale Black Bart x Curig Faerietale Dusky Willow) Breeders/Owners: Barbara du Pree, Juliana du Pree & Susan Neave. A very handsome red headed tri dog. Very nicely proportioned headpiece. Had a strong level top line and went around well, with good rear drive. He lacked length of neck however and is a bit forward in front assembly. Moved a bit close in the rear. In good coat and condition. He won this class on his side gate.

Masculine red headed tri dog in good coat and condition. Shorter coupled than the above dog. He had a pleasing expression. He held his topline but unfortunately lacked neck and is forward in his front assembly, which restricted his front movement.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 6 TO 9 MONTH BITCHES (5 entered, 0 absent)

1. HOMESPUN LIGHT N’ BREEZY (GCh Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x Northrun Light Breezes II) Breeders: Ann Baker, Cathy Donovan & Carla Hellander. Owners: Annie Baker & Carla Hellander. An adorable little red and white puppy! She caught my eye right away. Barely over six months she has a gorgeous feminine head with the darkest of eyes. Lovely outline, long and low stationed, lots of prosternum with nice layback and excellent rear angles. Good rib to loin proportions. Good feet. She moved well around the ring but being the baby that she is was unsettled at times. There is so much to like about this girl, she really pressed hard for the top spot but just doesn’t have it quite all together yet. I really look forward to seeing this bitch in the future.

2. BROGAN BRIGHT LIGHT (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x GCh. Brogan Tralee) Breeder/Owner: Mari Carroll. Another lovely red and white bitch. Higher on leg than the above puppy but has a good outline, good layback of shoulder and adequate rear angles. Nice dark eyes, but is a bit long in the muzzle at this point. I suspect this will change as her back skull widens. She held her top line standing and on the move. She has good ribbing. Moved well coming and going, this is another one to watch in the future.

3. RANPRI BRYNLEA GITCHI GITCHI YA YA DA DA (Ch. Ranpri Cardinal’s Tuscon x Brynlea Ranpri J’Ne Sais Quoi) Breeders: Randy Pritts & Brenda Stiles. Owner: Randy Pritts. A nice feminine red headed tri bitch. Has lots of breed type, and a very attractive head piece, with good proportions. Decent shoulder and rear angles. She moved well coming at you, but was close behind. She is high in the rear which spoils her outline standing and on the move.

4. ASHBRYN RHUBARB AND ROSE (Ashbryn Oh Henry x CromenHill’s Heart Of Gold) Breeder/Owner: Katerina Kuehler. Larger framed red and white bitch. Good head but with a slightly smaller ear. Good front assembly, with a nice long neck that flowed well into the shoulder. She held her top line standing, but seemed to be a bit high in the rear on the move.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 9 TO 12 MONTH BITCHES (1 entered, 0 absent)

1. ACT TWO HOT STUFF (GCh. Corgard’s Stun Gun At Jorash x Ch. Act Two Sweet Mystery Of Life) Breeders/Owners: Carrie DeJan & Joan D. Healy. Red headed tri bitch not in her best coat today. Long and rangy, she stands quite high on leg. Her lack of coat does not help. Her head is feminine, but is long in the muzzle at this time, which I suspect will improve with age. Straighter in the front and rear. She moves OK from the side but is a bit close in the rear. She showed well.

SWEEPSTAKES 12 TO 15 MONTH BITCHES (5 entered, 1 absent)

1. JORASH CORGARD SUNSET KEY (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x GCh. Jorash Key To Your Heart At Corgard) Breeders: Ellen Schusterson & Kandy L. Boll. Owners: Kandy L. Boll, Ellen Schusterson & Michele Pohl. She is one beautiful red and white bitch. Another one that caught my eye the minute she walked in the ring. So much to like about her. Gorgeous feminine head medium dark eye. Loads of breed type. Correct feet. So beautifully balanced with excellent angles front and rear. She was clean coming and going and moved well from the side. She is a good sized bitch and in excellent coat and condition. She really sparkled out there and certainly asked for the win. I was thrilled to award her BEST IN SWEEPSTAKES.

2. JORASH CORGARD FREE AND EASY (GCh. Ciregna Thats Amore x GCh. Jorash Heartsease At Corgard) Breeders: Ellen Schusterson & Kandy Boll. Owners: Ellen Schusterson & April Kerns. Quality red and white bitch. She has a great outline with a nice head. An excellent mover. Nice long shoulder layback. She too moved well from all angles. She pushed for the top placement, just didn’t have the quite the pizzazz of number one.

3. BEAUMANOR STAR SPANGLED (Aberlee Leave It To Me x Ch. Coventry Beaumanor Love Potion) Breeders: Robin Herrick & Neil Herrick. Owner: Robin Herrick. Another beautiful red and white bitch. I was really splitting hairs in this class. This bitch also had a good head and sweet expression. Decent shoulder. Held her top on standing but roached over the loin on the move. She was good coming at you, but moved a little close behind.

4. HONEYFOX-WINDDANCER BAREFOOT & TOPLESS (GCh. Aylesford Take It From The Top @ Winddancer x Honeyfox Cinnamon Buns) Breeder: Susan Strickland. Owners: Jacklynn Gingerich & Mary DeToma. Red and white who was a little unsettled at first. Good proportions front and rear. Not quite as pretty a head as the above girls. She held her top line ok on the move but could stand a bit sloppy at times. She was good coming at you but toed in going away.

SWEEPSTAKES 15 TO 18 MONTH BITCHES (2 entered, 0 absent)

1. HARMONY ANNIE OAKLEY (GCh. Creekside Hard Workin Man x Ch. Harmony Whiskey River) Breeder: Melody A. Kist. Owners: Kathleen S. Norcia & Melody A. Kist. Solid red and white bitch. Some of the best ribbing Ive seen. Good head proportions, with dark eyes. Nice shoulder layback, but slightly straighter in stifle and longer in hock. Clean coming and going. Very nice breed type.

2. READFIELD & XIII MAPLES SUNDANCE (XIII Maples & Readfield Storm Of The Century x Readfield Gold Dust Woman) Breeder: Marianne Read. Owners: Ellen C. Childs & Marianne Read. Red and white girl not in her best coat today. She has an attractive feminine headpiece, with a slightly smaller eye. Tremendous prosternum. She moved quite well from the side. Not quite as clean coming and going as the above bitch but yet another nice bitch that should do well in the future.
