I’d like to thank the Officers and Committee of Garden State for judging their speciality show in conjunction with Somerset Hills Kennel Club. I enjoyed my appointment very much judging the Corgi specialty, Belgian Sheepdog Specialty and several other Herding, Working and Hound breeds. The incredible heat and humidity on the day affected some of the dogs (not to mention the judge!) and I appreciate the effort that exhibitors took to show under me as the weather was ‘brutal’ as we would say in Ireland.

I was very pleased with the quality of the dogs shown under me and presentation, handling and sportsmanship was of the highest order as I would expect in the US. As I said in my speech at the dinner in the evening, I find the quality of the dogs you are breeding a great inspiration to me and without doubt you continue to lead the way throughout the corgi world in breeding the best corgis. Finally, I would like to thank the club for ‘re-inviting’ me to judge this show as I didn’t make it in 2010 due to Icelandic ash cloud and also for the gifts they provided me and the hospitality shown to my brother and me throughout my stay.

2. IVYSEDGE JORASH LATE BREAKING NEWS AT WINDHAMLAIR (Gch. Corgard Stun Gun At jorash x Ch. Windhamlair Late July) Breeders/Owners: Ellen Schusterson & Pamela Mills Cone & Amy Scheibenpflug. Litter brother to winner and he has many of his virtues, however preferred length and topline on move of the winner.

9 MONTHS AND UNDER 12 MONTHS, DOGS (5 entered, 2 absent)

1. NCHANTED CONCERTO (GCh. Sandfox Cadenza x Ch.Nchanted Silk Teddy) Breeder/Owner: Carol Braunstein. Sable dog with superb outline. Correct head, nice bone and feet, good neck, topline, showed and moved really well holding his shape beautifully as he moved around the ring. I was delighted to award this young boy WINNERS DOG AND BEST PUPPY

2. FAIRYSTEAD THE STONE PONY (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Ch. Fairystead Cranky Pants) Breeder/Owner: Karen Gunzel. Pretty headed dog with correct bone and feet. Pleasing reach of neck and shoulder construction. I would prefer more length of body and better topline on the move.

3. FAIRYSTEAD THE STEEL PIER (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Ch. Fairystead Cranky Pants) Breeder: Karen Gunzel Owners: Nichola Redmond & Karen Gunzel. Very unsettled dog who never really showed off his virtues. Good neck, length and topline – would prefer a broader muzzle.

12 TO 18 MONTHS, DOGS (1entered, 0 absent)

1. XIII MAPLES & CONANT BROOK SADDLANE LIAM (Aberlee Leave It To me x Ch. XIII Maples Perfect 10 At Conant Brook) Breeders: C. Piarski & E. Childs. Owners: Andrew Carter & Angela Reilly. Quality red and white dog who has a pleasing head and expression, Nice bone, neck and topline and moves soundly. At present, he needs to tighten up as he looses his topline on the move and can stand slack in topline at times when he is over stretching.

BRED-BY-EXHIBITOR, DOGS (2 entered, 0 absent)

1. BELLISSIMO THE BOY I LOVE (GCh. Heartsong Brynlea Pavarotti x Ch. Bellissimo Lucianna Di Napoli) Breeders/Owners: Anthony A. pepe & Debra Santoro-Pepe. Nicely balanced red and white dog who presents a nice outline and has a correct head. He moved and showed very well, however I’d prefer more bone for his size

2. TENBAY’S LONG STRANGE TRIP ( TRIP (GCh. Sandfox Medaglia D’Oro x Tenbay’s Heaven Can Wait) Breeders: Roberta Lord & Cynthia Savioli & Vincent Savioli. Owner: Roberta Lord. Similar type to winner, however I would like a darker eye and more length of body.

Breeder/Owner: Carol Braunstein

PUPPY 6 MONTHS AND UNDER 9 MONTHS, BITCHES (4 entered, 3 absent)

1. NCHANTED SYNCOPATED RHYTHM (GCh. Sandfox Cadenza x Ch. Nchanted Silk Teddy) Breeder/Owner: Carol Braunstein. Quality tri-colour bitch who currently is a little on the leg, however her super outline and movement really draws your eye to her. Correct head, bone, feet and front, moved and drove well around the ring – non- stop show girl.

2. FAIRYSTEED CAROUSEL (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Ch. Fairysteed Cranky Pants) Breeder/Owner: Karen Gunzel. Out of coat red and white who has a pleasing head and length. Moved quite well, however she did tend to tuck her legs underneath her body when standing which ruined her outline.

12 TO 18 MONTH, BITCHES (5 entered, 0 absent)

1. PEMBURY HOUSE PAISLEY (Ch Wynfox Lion In Winter x Ch Pembury House Nutmeg Gingham) Breeders: Sandi Eaton & Julie Slowik & Mark Slowik. Owner: Sandi Eaton. Pretty headed red and white bitch who won this class due to her classic outline and lovely shape on the move. Good front, feet and bone – moved and handled very well. In the stifling heat in the bitch challenge – she started to roach her back standing and moving which cost her higher honours.

2. HERITAGE POWER PLAY (Gch. Hum’nbird Groundhog Day x GCh. Heritage Ever After) Breeder: Judy Pilat. Owners: Mari Carroll & Judy Pilat. Similar type to the winner and has many of the same virtues, however I preferred the ear set and topline on the move of the winner.

3. CORGARDS RISE OF THE SECOND STUN (GCh. Nchanted Silk Lining x Ch. Kaybe Corgard Forever Stunning) Breeders: Kandy Boll & Michele Pohl & Sherryn Viebrock. Owners: Kandy L. Boll & Michele L. Pohl. Larger type than the winners and therefore not as feminine, balanced outline and good structure in front and topline – would prefer better rear action, although she did drive well around the ring.

4. BRYNLEA KARMA KIMBERLY DIAMOND (GCh. Sandfox Cadenza x Brynlea Bada Bling) Breeders: Denise Hartley & Brenda Stiles. Owner: Brenda Stiles. Sable girl who moved very well. Correct head, good neck and topline – however she was not interested in showing today.

OPEN, BITCHES (3 entered, 1 absent)

1. BROOKEHAVEN A SECRET NO MORE (Brookehaven Strangers In The Night x Brookehaven Our Little Secret) Breeders: Robert Rigwood & Kathleen Gangi. Owner: Ann Caterson. Beautiful sable bitch with gorgeous head and expression. Lovely bone and feet, good neck and topline which she keeps on the move. In the blistering heat she moved well and never stopped showing. In the challenge she pulled out all the stops when others started to fade in the conditions and I was delighted to award her WINNERS BITCH AND BEST OF WINNERS.

2. AUBREY TENBAY ROACK & ROLL FANTASY (Ch. Pemintenn Wisteria Sky Rocket x Ch. Aubrey’s Rollin OnThe River) Breeders/Owners: Roberta Lord & Cynthia M. Savioli & Vincent Savioli. . Sensational bitch who never stops showing and stands beautifully at all times. Pretty head and good pigmentation, correct front, feet and ample bone. Good reach of neck flowing into correct shoulders and dead level topline which she kept on the move. She moved with ease in around the ring and showed that a fit for function corgi can perform to the highest possible standard in the most adverse weather conditions. After judging I found out that this is her tenth speciality win and also that I awarded her grandmother a speciality BIS – congratulations to her breeders and handlers – quite a team. I was delighted to later award her Group #1 in the Herding Group.

BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX
GCH HAPPIHARBOR SADDLE LANE TY
(Ch Aberlee Bransby x Ch Maplecreek Silver Cygnet)
Breeder: T. Rutledge Parker. Owners: Andy Carter & Rut Parker.

Beautiful Male who at almost 7 years old looked fantastic and lost out for Best of Breed to the bitch who was ‘on it’ at all times. Best of heads, lovely bone and feet, good neck and topline. Moved very soundly fore and aft and with ease around the ring. From my point of view, compared to the other males in the Best of Breed class, he was the one without any serious fault and certainly the best headed male in the entry – congratulations to his owners and breeders for presenting his in such wonderful condition.

(greenwoods)

I would like to thank the members of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Garden State for inviting me to judge puppy sweepstakes at this year’s specialty. Thank you to the breeders and exhibitors who presented to me some lovely young dogs and bitches on such a terribly hot and humid day. A special thank you to Jeff and Kathi Powers who picked me up and got me to where I needed to be. I love the embroidered garment bag with my kennel name that just happens to be in my favorite color, green. 🙂

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 6 TO 9 MONTH DOGS(3 entered, 1 absent)

1. WINDHAMLAIR IVYSEDGE LATE NIGHT OUT AT JORASH (GCh. Corgard Stun Gun At Jorash x Ch. Windhamlair Late July) Breeders/Owners: Ellen Schusterson & Pamela Mills Cone & Amy Scheibenpflug. A handsome red & white, moderate in size. This boy has good head proportions, a pleasing expression with dark, oval eyes. He has nice bone and is not overdone in anyway. He presents a nice outline with a level topline which he held on the move. He is clean coming and going and excelled in side gait with good reach and drive. He showed beautifully for his handler and I was pleased to award him BEST of OPPOSITE SEX in SWEEPSTAKES

2. IVYSEDGE JORASH LATE BREAKING NEWS AT WINDHAMLAIR (GCh. Corgard Stun Gun At Jorash x Ch. Windhamlair Late July) Breeders/Owners: Ellen Schusterson & Pamela Mills Cone & Amy Scheibenpflug. Another nice red and white boy with many of the same attributes as the one above so I was not surprised to find they are litter mates. The puppy above was more settled on the move and I preferred him going away today.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 9 TO 12 MONTH DOGS (5 entered, 2 absent)

1. NCHANTED CONCERTO (GCh. Sandfox Cadenza x Ch. Nchanted Silk Teddy) Breeder/Owner: Carol Braunstein. A long and low light sable. Standing this puppy presents good length of neck with a level topline, good turn in stifle and short hocks. He is clean coming and going but was rather rambunctious this morning and was a handful for his handler

2. FAIRYSTEAD THE STONE PONY (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Ch. Fairystead Cranky Pants) Breeder/Owner: Karen Gunzel. A pretty red and white with a pleasing head and dark eye. He is shorter in body than the puppy above but also presented a nice outline with a level topline. He is clean coming and going but would prefer more reach in front when moving from the side.

3. FAIRYSTEAD THE STEEL PIER (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Ch. Fairystead Cranky Pants) Breeder: Karen Gunzel Owners: Nichola Redmond & Karen Gunzel. Another nice, darker red puppy. He is a litter mate to the #2 puppy above. He appears to be a slightly larger puppy over all with a nice masculine head and expression. He cuts a nice outline with a level topline and moved well when he got going. I liked this boy a lot but he did not show well for his handler today which spoiled the overall picture.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 12 TO 15 MONTH DOGS (1 entered, 0 absent)

1. XIII MAPLES & CONANT BROOK SADDLANE LIAM (Aberlee Leave It To Me x Ch. XIII Maples Perfect 10 At Conant Brook) Breeders: C. Piarski & E. Childs. Owners: Andrew Carter & Angela Reilly. A very handsome dog in glorious coat. He has good head proportions with a beautiful expression and dark eye. Standing he presents a nice outline, with a level topline, good turn in stifle and short hocks. Moving, he was very exuberant this morning and he had the appearance of a slight rise over the loin. He did not stand as neatly in front as the other contenders in the final line up.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 6 TO 9 MONTH BITCHES (3 entered, 2 absent)

1. CRYSMONT NORTHRUN SANDY CASTLE (Ch. Crysmont Black Douglas Of Marymead THD x Northrun Sea Heritage) Breeders: Cathy Donovan & Debbie Blais & Linda Thompson. Owners: Linda Thompson & Deborah Blais. A striking black headed tri who has a gorgeous head and beautiful dark, oval eye. She has a lovely outline with a dead level topline which she held moving. She is clean coming and going and moved around the ring free and easy with good balance. She was a typical 6 month old, enjoying her first time out who just didn’t want to stand still today but I loved her and will be anxious to watch her in the future.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 9 TO 12 MONTH BITCHES (2 entered, 0 absent)

1. NCHANTED SYNCOPATED RHYTHM (GCh. Sandfox Cadenza x Ch. Nchanted Silk Teddy) Breeder/Owner: Carol Braunstein. A well up to size red headed tri who has a pleasing head. She has a nice outline with good length of body. She is clean coming and going and moved well from the side with good rear drive. She was considered for top honors today but she tended to rise slightly over the loin on the move which may just be a growth stage.

2. FAIRYSTEED CAROUSEL (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Ch. Fairysteed Cranky Pants) Breeder/Owner: Karen Gunzel. A nice red girl who also presents a nice outline, just slightly shorter in body than the one above. She is clean coming and going and used herself well on the side. Preferred the rear drive and eye color of the one above.

SWEEPSTAKES 12 TO 15 MONTH BITCHES (1 entered, 0 absent)

1. BRYNLEA KARMA KIMBERLY DIAMOND (GCh. Sandfox Cadenza x Brynlea Bada Bling) Breeders: Denise Hartley & Brenda Stiles. Owner: Brenda Stiles. A pretty light sable girl who has good head proportions. She has a lovely outline standing with a dead level topline, nice turn in stifle and short hocks. She is clean coming and going and a very balanced bitch that I am certain can move out and use herself better. I liked this bitch a lot but she just didn’t want to show herself off today in the heat and humidity.

SWEEPSTAKES 15 TO 18 MONTH BITCHES (5 entered, 0 absent)
This class was full of quality, all five bitches are really nice. I was splitting hairs with my decisions. A wonderful place to be. 🙂

1. HERITAGE HAT TRICK (GCh. Hum’nbird Groundhog Day x GCh. Heritage Ever After) Breeder/Owner: Judy Pilat. This beautiful red and white girl grabbed my attention right off the bat. Her beautiful head with correct proportions was just the start. Her dark, oval eyes set off her pretty feminine expression. She has nice length of neck that flowed into well laid shoulders. Her beautiful outline consisted of a dead level topline, good length of ribbing, good bend of stifle and nice short hocks. She is in beautiful coat which extenuated her lovely underline. This bitch was not overdone in any way and had good bone going right down into her lovely, correct feet. She is clean coming and going. Her movement from the side was free and easy with good reach and drive. Today this girl had it all and I was very pleased to have her in the ring and to award her BEST IN SWEEPSTAKES. Congratulations to her breeder/owner.

2. HERITAGE POWER PLAY (GCh. Hum’nbird Groundhog Day x GCh. Heritage Ever After) Breeder: Judy Pilat. Owners: Mari Carroll & Judy Pilat. – Another quality red and white with many of the same attributes as the girl above, it is not a surprise to find out that she is her litter sister. This girl is a tad shorter in body. She has a lovely head and expression and beautiful outline both standing and moving. She is good coming and going and has good rear drive. Today she didn’t move as freely in front, she looked as though she was rushing and trying to catch the girl in front of her.

3. PEMBURY HOUSE PAISLEY (Ch Wynfox Lion In Winter x Ch Pembury House Nutmeg Gingham) Breeders: Sandi Eaton & Julie Slowik & Mark Slowik. Owner: Sandi Eaton. This is another eye catching clear red girl. She has a pleasing head. A lovely outline both standing and moving. She is clean coming and going and exhibits good rear drive on the move. I preferred the shoulder lay back and front reach of the two above.

4. AUBREY’S FOREIGN LOVE AFFAIR AT GREY ANGELS PLACE (Ch. Dragonjoy Some Bunny to Love x Ch. Aubrey’s Singing InThe Rain) Breeders: Silvana Veronica Abigail Cruz & Cynthia Savioli & Vincent Savioli. Owners: Richard Burd & Cynthia M. Savioli & Vincent J. Saviloi. A lovely darker red girl who has a nice outline with good length of body. She has nice head proportions and a dark eye. She moves well in all directions. Moving from the side today she has a slight rise over the loin.
