I really can’t say THANK YOU enough for inviting me to judge the Garden Gate Specialty. I tremendously enjoyed having a high quality entry from which to choose. The in ring observer commented that many of breed problems he had been told about weren’t there for him to see. YOUR PEMS WERE THAT GOOD. Heads were generally great – in proportion, shape, ear & placement. Necks mostly were proper length. Almost all entries had superior toplines and outlines. There wasn’t a questionable bite; not even a level one. Body & substance were present and usually not overdone. The out of coat dogs appeared sturdy, still. Temperaments on the dogs, as well as the exhibitors, were excellent in spite of the HEAT & HUMIDITY. I do recommend breeding towards Pems whose shoulders aren’t way up in front to the point it reduces true forechest. The bones making up the shoulders need good length and breadth for attachments. Pay attention too to the rear drive. There were many Pems going well under themselves but not extending as far behind on rear follow through. In listening to the recorder I found I used similar words to describe the dogs almost all the time. Honestly, they were that good to my eyes and hands. I was nit-picky with my placements in most cases. The Pems were quality; some had more of the virtues I value.

PUPPY 6 MONTHS AND UNDER 9 MONTHS, DOGS (3 entered, 0 absent)

1. TOWNHILL IN THE NAME OF LOVE (GChB. Nchanted Concerto x GCh. Townhill Penny Lane) Breeders/Owners: Mark Russo & Holly Russo. Red and white. Has the head piece, topline and outline that are desired. He was still young enough that his ears caught my attention. Good bone and proper feet. He held his outline on the move, with rear follow through. Good coming and going too. He looked his age, not overdone at all. RESERVE WINNERS DOG

2. MELYN RHOS STERLING SILVER (Ch. Aberlee Bransby x Sandfox Chance Play of Perivale) Breeder/Owner: B. Lea Jacobs. Red and white. Again has head, topline and outline desired. Ears signaled his pleasure in being in the ring. He has a lot of desirable qualities at this age. Stood slack in front at the wrong moment. He could use a better rear, at least on the day.

3. PERIVALE RENAISSANCE (GChB. Heartsong Brynlea Pavarotti x GCh. Sandfox Chance Encounter At Perivale) Breeders: Feli Noeller, DVM & Vicki Sandage, DVM. Owner: Feli Noeller, DVM. Sable marked red and white. He too had a good head and topline. He appeared to have better forechest than what my hands found when I examined him today. His shoulder placement could have been better today.

9 MONTHS AND UNDER 12 MONTHS, DOGS (1 entered, 0 absent)

1. HERITAGE MAGIC TRICK (GCh. Ciregna Thats Amore x Ch. Heritage Hat Trick) Breeder/Owner: Judy Pilat. Red and white. Attractive head piece. Level topline & good outline. There was a good forechest. Had a bit of turn out on his left leg at some moments. Good length of body. Moved well.

12 TO 18 MONTHS, DOGS (3 entered, 0 absent)

1. ASHBRYN GOLDEN NOIR (GCh. Woodsedge Brynlea Noir Like Me x Ch. Laif Spring Golden Dream) Breeder/Owner: Katerina Kuehler. Red and white. Somewhat larger than I prefer. I liked head proportions and ear set as well as topline and outline. Good forechest and front. Rib length vs loin length less than I prefer. Movement from the side with rear follow through earned him first place. WINNERS DOG

2. MELYN RHOS RANDOM MEMORIES (Ch. Melyn Rhos At First Sight x Sandfox Chance Play At Perivale) Breeders: B. Lea Jacobs & Vicki L. Sandage, DVM. Owners: B. Lea Jacobs & Feli Noeller, DVM. Red and white with same pluses of head, outline and topline. Markings flasher than many in entry, but not extreme by any means. Noticed how well his feet and legs went into his forechest area. He had better standing rear angles than #1.

3. WINDDANCER-AYLESFORD PARADOX (GCh. Aylesford Take It From The Top @ Winddancer x Winddancer In Living Color) Breeders: Elizabeth Mercer & Mary DeToma. Owners: Mary DeToma, Ann Caterson & Elizabeth Mercer. Darker red and white. Being out of coat allowed him to better show off his good body and qualities. He has a blockier head than I like.

BRED-BY-EXHIBITOR, DOGS (3 entered, 0 absent, 1 move-up)
The heat was building by this time.

1. ACT TWO STAYIN’ ALIVE (GCh. Corgard’s Stun Gun At Jorash x Ch. Act Two Sweet Mystery Of Life) Breeders/Owners: Carrie DeJan & Joan Healy. Red and white lighter color. Again liked the head/expression, outline and topline. Good forechest. He has correct shoulders that worked in coordination with his driving rear for a great go around with level topline. Would have preferred more ribbing.

2. NORTHRUN CRYSMONT SANDY BOTTOM (Ch. Crysmont Black Douglas Of Marymead, THD x Northrun Sea Heritage) Breeders: Cathy Donovan, Debbie Blais & Linda Thompson. Owners: Linda Thompson & Deborah Blais. Red-headed tricolor. Again his outline & topline were good. He had a correct oval foot. Good forechest. He was unlucky to be in the class with the one above. Very nice coming and going. Blockier head than I prefer.

OPEN, DOGS (1 entered, 0 absent)

1. FOXTALE’S ICING THE PUCK (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x Kelticfoxtale Dream Weaver) Breeder: Virginia Fitzgerald. Owners: Deborah Harrold, Anne Norton & Virginia Fitzgerald. Red and white. PUPPY 6 MONTHS AND UNDER 9 MONTHS, BITCHES (5 entered, 0 absent)
Hotter competition, temperature and humidity!

1. MELYN RHOS SILVER SLIPPERS (Ch. Aberlee Bransby x Sandfox Chance Play Of Perivale) Breeder/Owner: B. Lea Jacobs. Red and white. Again head/expression, topline and outline. Seemingly not quite as stressed by the heat. Good head, bone and overall length and proportions. Liked her on go around for rear extension. Kept her outline standing and moving.

2. CORGARD JORASH YOUR SO VAIN (GCh. Nchanted Concerto x Ch. Jorash Corgard Promise From My Heart) Breeders/Owners: Ellen Schusterson, Kandy Boll & Michelle Pohl . Sable marked red and white. Head was a definite plus to me. Had length of body, outline and topline. Proper bone for size of body. One above was better on the go round today.

3. TOWNHILL WHAT’S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT (GCh. Nchanted Concerto x GCh. Townhill Penny Lane) Breeders/Owners: Mark Russo & Holly Russo. Red and white. Her markings really showed off a proper neck both in set on and in length. Loved her ears and the way she could use them. Again the ones above her were better in movement.

4. PERIVALE ACAPELLA (GChB. Heartsong Brynlea Pavarotti x GCh. Sandfox Chance Encounter At Perivale) Breeders: Feli Noeller, DVM & Vicki Sandage, DVM. Owner: Feli Noeller, DVM. Sable marked red and white. Her head and expression as well as outline and topline really pleased my eyes. Good neck into level topline. Her go around could have been better on the day.

1. XIV KARAT IT’S ALL ABOUT ME (GCh. Ciregna Thats Amore x GCh. XIV Karat Hillrise Hurray For Hollywood) Breeders: Sherri Hurst & Galia Hutchinson. Owners: Sherri Hurst & Jacqui Bertrem. Red and white. Enjoying her day at the dog show in spite of the heat. Well put together. Head that I like; outline and topline. Nice front and shoulders when I went over her that showed in her standing and moving picture too. Beautiful on the go around. Looking like 9-12 girl. BEST PUPPY

2. SANDFOX WOODSTAR (Ch. Sandfox Golden Whistler x Ch. Sandfox Stardust) Breeders/Owners: Feli Noeller, DVM & Vicki Sandage, DVM. Red and white, lighter color than many. 4. KARMA SPIRIT OF ECSTACY (GCh. Heartsong Brynlea Pavarotti x Brynlea Bada Bling) Breeder/Owner: Denise Hartley. Sable marked red and white. Larger than the ones above. Well put together. Never will be accused of having a smallish ear. Would like longer ribbing; proportions might improve as she matures.

12 TO 18 MONTH, BITCHES (4 entered, 1 absent)

1. BRIGADOON’S BROADWAY BABY OF SADDLELANE (Aberlee Take It ToThe Limit x Brigadoon Lady Of The Manor) Breeder: Betty Cook. Owners: Andrew Carter & Betty Cook. Red and white. When I listened to the recorder all I used were superlatives in describing her from head to tail set. She has it all together. She is one that could get me back into breeding and showing. Was pleased to learn she finished with three five point specialty majors. All I can say is I LIKED her. WINNERS BITCH, BEST OF WINNERS, BEST OF BREED

2. BRIGADOON’S CHASE THE CLOUDS (GCh. Tallyrand Halo Chaser x Ch. Brigadoon Secret Affair Of Highclere) Breeder: Betty Cook. Owner: Mary Ellen McNerney. Red and white. Bit more refined than some of the others today. I liked for size and attributes of head, outline and topline. Her hair disappeared after entries were made I’ve no doubt. She showed off a very good body and movement anyway. Would prefer a shorter loin.

3. JORASH CORGARD EASY ON THE EYES (GCh. Sandfox Cadenza x GCh. Jorash Heartsease At Corgard) Breeders/Owners: Ellen Schusterson & Kandy Boll. Red and white. Larger than ones above but within current size range. I liked her standing. There was a flip to the front feet on the move that cost her.

3. REINWOOD ELECTRA GLIDE (Ch. Pembury House Be Still My Heart x Reinwood One For The Money) Breeders/Owners: Mary Elizabeth Simpson & Cathy Santarsiero. Red and white. Attractive head and size. She stood slack in body. Her rear was stronger than her front on the go around. Good type.

1. BRUMBAER’S SKYFALL (Ch. Greenwoods Fame and Fortune x Ch. Honeyfox Saddle Lane Hayden) Breeders: Andrew Carter & Susan King. Owners: Sue King & Karen Fruhmann. Red and white. Also liked her shoulders and forechest by feel as well as when she was standing and moving. RESERVE WINNERS BITCH

2. JORASH CORGARD KEY TO THE MINT (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x GCh. Jorash Key To Your Heart At Corgard) Breeders: Ellen Schusterson & Kandy Boll. 3. HARMONY TWO TIMING WOMAN (GCh. Anlen Pay Day x Ch. Harmony Whiskey River) Breeder/Owner: Melody Kist. Red-headed tricolor with wider white head mark. Coat fell out after entries made. Could have used a cloudier/cooler day to help her be more willing to participate especially when moving.

(GCh. Ciregna Thats Amore x GCh. Townhill Penny Lane) Breeders/Owners: Mark Russo & Holly Bunn Russo. Red and white bitch. She again had outline, topline and proper head piece. The heat did not stop her from showing off all of her good points very effectively.

Thank you to the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Garden State for inviting me to judge Sweepstakes at their 21st specialty show. The show was held at the beautiful North Branch Park and although the weather could have been cooler, it was a very fun day. My excellent ring steward, Joe Reno, kept everything running smoothly and efficiently which was much appreciated. My entry was lovely and many of the dogs could easily switch placements on a different day. Thank you to the exhibitors for bringing me their beautiful puppies and young adults and for graciously accepting my placements. A special thank you to Richard Burd and Mark Matticola for taking me out to dinner at a wonderful Mediterranean restaurant on Friday night. Another special thanks to the Garden State members for my fabulous judge’s gift, a tote bag embroidered with my kennel name and a corgi, handmade by club member Linda Butsch.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 6 TO 9 MONTH DOGS (3 entered, 0 absent)
A lovely class of young boys who could easily switch placements on a different day!

1. PERIVALE RENAISSANCE (GCh. Heartsong Brynlea Pavarotti x GCh. Sandfox Chance Encouter At Perivale) Breeders: Feli Noeller, DVM & Vicki Sandage, DVM. Owner: Feli Noeller, DVM. This red puppy with a sable head has a correct long and low outline with good front and rear angles. He has a lovely long neck that blends into a level topline. Nice length of rib, good amount of bone and short hocks. I would prefer a shorter muzzle but still a pleasing head with a nice dark eye. He moves cleanly coming and going. His side gait is effortless but he rolls over his shoulders at times. Hopefully this will improve with age and condition.

2. TOWNHILL IN THE NAME OF LOVE GCh. Nchanted Concerto x GCh. Townhill Penny Lane) Breeders: Mark & Holly Russo. Owners: Mark & Holly Russo & Morgan Campbell. A sweet red and white boy with a stunning head piece of correct proportions and a beautiful dark eye. He has lovely bone and nice length of neck blending into a level topline. I wish he was a bit longer. He is a very clean mover coming and going. He is a little shorter in upper arm but he uses all he has and covers ground well.

3. MELYN RHOS STERLING SILVER (Ch. Aberlee Bransby x Sandfox Chance Play of Perivale) Breeder/Owner: B. Lea Jacobs. Another red and white boy of larger stature. Masculine head with a nice dark eye and good ear. He is a balanced puppy and he has a good length of neck, nice amount of bone and a level topline standing. He is clean coming and going. He can tend to be a little high in the rear when moving which could be due to his age.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 9 TO 12 MONTH DOGS (1 entered, 0 absent)

1. HERITAGE MAGIC TRICK (GCh. Ciregna Thats Amore x Ch. Heritage Hat Trick) Breeder/Owner: Judy Pilat. A quality red and white boy with a lovely head of correct proportions. He has a nice length of neck and a good amount of bone. I would prefer a slightly darker eye. He is a clean mover coming and going. He has a shorter upper arm and a straighter angled rear making him a moderate mover from the side.

SWEEPSTAKES 15 TO 18 MONTH DOGS (3 entered, 0 absent)

1. ASHBRYN GOLDEN NOIR (GCh. Woodsedge Brynlea Noir Like Me x Ch. Laif Spring Golden Dream) Breeder/Owner: Katerina Kuehler. A handsome, eye catching red and white dog with a beautiful outline. He has a gorgeous head of correct proportions and a lovely dark eye. He has a good length of neck and back, nice shoulders, strong rear, good bone and a level topline. He is clean coming and going and covers ground effortlessly on the side. I was very pleased to award him BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX IN SWEEPSTAKES.

2. WINDDANCER-ALYESFORD PARADOX (GCh. Aylesford Take It From The Top @ Winddancer x Winddancer In Living Color At Aylesford) Breeders: Elizabeth Mercer & Mary DeToma. Owners: Mary DeToma, Ann Caterson & Elizabeth Mercer. A smaller, more moderate dark red and white boy with a lovely head although I would prefer a darker eye. He has nice bone, a level topline, good shoulder and rear angles. He is shorter in back than the class winner. He is a clean mover coming and going and on the side.

3. MELYN RHOS RANDOM MEMORIES (Ch. Melyn Rhos At First Sight x Sandfox Chance Play At Perivale) Breeders: B. Lea Jacobs & Vicki Sandage, DVM. Owners: B. Lea Jacobs & Feli Noeller, DVM. A red and white boy with a beautiful head and nice dark eye. He has a lovely length of neck and back. He has good shoulder layback and a nice upper arm. He is correct coming in but not as clean going away. I’m not sure if the heat was bothering him or not but he really wasn’t happy to be in the ring today. He was not moving as well on the side as the two above him.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 6 TO 9 MONTH BITCHES (5 entered, 0 absent)

1. CORGARD JORASH YOUR SO VAIN (GCh. Nchanted Concerto x Ch. Jorash Corgard Promise From My Heart) Breeders/Owners: Ellen Schusterson, Kandy Boll & Michelle Pohl. A larger sable and white girl with an outstanding, correct outline. She is long and low and has lovely shoulder lay back and a good length of upper arm. She has a strong well angled rear. Her head is a bit heavier than I prefer but she has a pleasing expression and a lovely dark eye. She has good bone, length of ribbing and carries a level topline standing and moving. She is clean coming and going and effortless on the side.

2. TOWNHILL WHAT’S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT (GCh. Nchanted Concerto x GCh. Townhill Penny Lane) Breeders/Owners: Mark Russo & Holly Russo. A yummy red and white girl with a lovely head, dark eye and expression. She has good bone and length of neck that blends into a level topline. She has good angles on both ends and is very balanced. I would prefer a little more length and she can stand slack in the front at times. She is clean coming and going. She does not have the side gait of the class winner but she does cover ground well.

3. MELYN RHOS SILVER SLIPPERS (Ch. Aberlee Bransby x Sandfox Chance Play Of Perivale) Breeder/Owner: B. Lea Jacobs. A red and white puppy who was a very naughty girl for her handler. She has a lovely outline, level topline and nice bone. Not quite the angles front and rear of the two above. She was clean coming and going. Her side gait was hard to evaluate because she did not want to move today.

4. FAIRYSTEED CHRISTMAS VESPERS (Ch. Fairysteed The Stone Pony x Fairysteed A Is For Alibi) Breeder/Owner: Karen Gunzel. A smaller, finer fawn and white girl with a sweet expression and nice dark eye. She was lighter in bone and has straighter angles in front and rear. Clean moving coming and going, moderate side gait.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 9 TO 12 MONTH BITCHES (5 entered, 0 absent)

1. XIV KARAT IT’S ALL ABOUT ME (GCh. Ciregna Thats Amore x GCh. XIV Karat Hillrise Hurray For Hollywood) Breeders: Sherri Hurst & Galia Hutchinson. Owners: Sherri Hurst & Jacqui Bertrem. A lovely red and white girl who was a handful for her handler today. She has a beautiful outline and head of correct proportions, soft expression and a dark eye. Her long neck flows into well laid back shoulders and level topline. She has a well angled, strong rear. She is clean coming and going and covers ground with ease.

2. FOXWOOD SUNFLOWER AT BRISTA (GCh. Martindale Black Bart x GCh. Lionhart’s Cameo Appearance) Breeders: Daniel Hartman, Deborah Royster & Judy Manley. Owners: Walter O’Brien & Sheila O’Brien. A larger red and white girl with a beautiful outline and nice bone. She has a lovely head with a dark eye but I would prefer an oval eye. She has an upright shoulder and a shorter upper arm. Her rear is nicely angled. She is clean coming and going but she can tend to roach over the loin.

3. KARMA SPIRIT OF ECSTACY (GCh. Heartsong Brynlea Pavarotti x Brynlea Bada Bling) Breeder/Owner: Denise Hartley. A light sable and white puppy with a nice dark eye and sweet expression. I would prefer a shorter muzzle. She has a nice shoulder angle, a level topline and nicely angled rear. She is clean coming and going. She is a softer, not as confident puppy and doesn’t use herself fully.

4. SANDFOX HILLSTAR (GCh. Sandfox Golden Whistler x Ch. Sandfox Stardust) Breeders: Vicki Sandage, DVM & Feli Noeller, DVM. Owner: Vicki Sandage, DVM. A red and white girl with a pretty head but I would prefer a darker eye. She has nice length of neck, a level topline and good bone. She has straighter angles front and rear. She is clean coming and going and moves moderately on the side.

1. JORASH CORGARD EASY ON THE EYES (GCh. Sandfox Cadenza x GCh. Jorash Heartsease At Corgard) Breeders/Owners: Ellen Schusterson & Kandy Boll. Wow! This red and white girl caught my eye the moment she entered to ring with her “Look at me” attitude. She has a long, low outline, lovely bone, short hocks and correct angles both front and rear. Her head is beautiful and feminine with a sweet expression. In a perfect world, I would give her a slightly darker eye. Her long neck flows into a level topline which she held standing and moving. She is clean coming and going. She reaches and drives with ease and effortlessly covers ground. She was breathtaking to watch move around the ring and I was pleased to award her BEST IN SWEEPSTAKES.

SWEEPSTAKES 15 TO 18 MONTH BITCHES (6 entered, 2 absent)

1. BRUMBAER’S MINK AND PEARLS (Brumbaer’s Krome Bumpers x Kaybe Bottoms Up) Breeders: Sherryn Viebrock, Sue King & Karen Fruhmann. Owners: Sue King & Karen Fruhmann. A lovely red and white bitch with a beautiful head and dark eye. She has good bone, a long neck and level topline. She has a shorter upper and more upright shoulder. Clean coming and going and fluid on the side.

2. BRIGADOON’S BROADWAY BABY OF SADDLELANE (Aberlee Take It To The Limit x Brigadoon Lady Of The Manor) Breeder: Betty Cook. Owners: Andrew Carter & Betty Cook. A red and white girl with a lovely head and dark eye. She has a good length of neck that flows into a level topline which she holds standing and moving. I would prefer more length. Good bone. She has a shorter upper arm. She is clean coming and going and a moderate mover on the side.

3. BRIGADOON’S CHASE THE CLOUDS (GCh. Tallyrand Halo Chaser x Ch. Brigadoon Secret Affair Of Highclere) Breeder: Betty Cook. Owner: Mary Ellen McNerney. A smaller, finer red and white girl with a pretty head and dark eye. She has nice length of neck and a level topline. Would prefer a longer back. She has a straighter shoulder. Her movement is clean coming and going but she has moderate sidegait.

4. HARMONY TWO TIMING WOMAN (GCh. Anlen Pay Day x Ch. Harmony Whiskey River) Breeder/Owner: Melody Kist. A larger red headed tricolor who is in her summer bikini today. She has a pretty head with a nice dark eye but I would prefer less white. She has a long neck and a level topline standing. She is higher on leg than I like. Clean coming and going but can ride up over the loin on the side.
