It was indeed an honour to be invited to judge the 10th Annual Specialty of the PWCCGS. To Co-Chairs Karen and Joan and the hardworking committee members – congratulations on your efforts in running such a wonderful show and my heartfelt thanks for making my travelling companion Sandra Fitzgerald and myself so welcome. Many thanks also to Mildred and Don Harris for looking after Sandra and myself and showing us part of your wonderful country. The friendship and hospitality shown was overwhelming.

My grateful thanks also to my Stewards Terry Coughlin and Melody Kist for keeping me on the “straight and narrow” and keeping things running so smoothly.

And of course my beautiful gift crafted by Linda Ozelis – this is something I will treasure always as a lasting keepsake of my assignment.

Now for some general observations. Firstly thank you to exhibitors for the spirit in which my decisions were received. The overall quality and presentation of exhibits was very high and temperaments were very good. As is the case in many parts of the world, the depth of quality in bitches was greater than in dogs. This is something that breeders world wide must address – our bitches are the foundation of the breed but we must have suitable building blocks to put with them. I would like to also comment on a few common characteristics in some exhibits which as a breeder I would like to be aware of and try to improve on if possible. These included a domed appearance above the eyes, smaller eyes than would be desirable, and a tendency for some exhibits to not have the desired pro sternum and be somewhat narrow in front. All these characteristics detract from some of the hallmarks of our breed – foxy head and expression and good “keel”.

PUPPY 6 MONTHS AND UNDER 9 MONTHS, DOGS (3 exhibited)

1. HONEYFOX JOHNNY ANGEL (Elfwish Sweet Talkin Guy x Honeyfox Summer Day) Breeder/Owner: Susan Strickland. Quality red and white with good overall balance and outline. Attractive head piece with nice dark eye. Good coming and going with a particularly tidy front. 1. MOOSEHILL CAN’T STOP LOV’N EWES (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Putnams Oh So Chic) Breeder/Owner: Carla Hellander. Quality red/white. Although not the most feminine head piece in the class, this young lady presented a lovely outline with correct proportions to give a very balanced picture. She moved out strongly in all directions and kept her level topline both moving and when standing. Good substance for a bitch with very nice short hocks. Very well presented.
2. PEMBURY HOUSE MARIE ANTOINETTE (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Ch. Pot O’Gold Visions of A Sunset) Breeders: Sandi Eaton & Barb Sheppard. Owners: Cynthia A. Rusakovich & Sandi Eaton. Quality red/white who unfortunately was not in the best of coat today. Perhaps the best head in the class with a very sweet expression. Moved well with level topline.

BRED-BY-EXHIBITOR, BITCHES (7 exhibited)

1. AUBREYS FOREVER N FOR ALWAYS (Ch. Dwynella Take A Chance x Aubrey Oakwind Abbey Road) Breeders: Roberta Lord & Cynthia & Vincent Savioli. Owners: Cynthia & Vincent Savioli. An outstanding red/white who displays correct breed type and quality. As she entered the ring I was immediately drawn to her and she fulfilled her promise when individually examined. Excellent proportions to give a really balanced picture. The most feminine of heads with sweet expression. On the move she was true coming and going and side gait was just as satisfying. A good topline kept on the move. This young lady fulfills my interpretation of the standard and it was indeed a pleasure to award her WINNERS BITCH, BEST OF WINNERS, BEST OF BREED
2. FOXTALE’S TOURMALINE (Ch. Cinonnie Regulus x Foxtale Reaching For A Star) Breeder/Owner: Virginia C. Fitzgerald. Quality tricolour who presented a nicely balanced outline. 3. AUBREY’S GOLD EDITION (Ch. Highleigh Watchamacallit x Ch Aubrey’s Zinnia) Breeders/Owners: Cynthia & Vincent Savioli. Another quality red/white with good overall balance. Feminine head piece and expression. Just preferred the substance and more positive movement of the winner.
4. CORGARD SHADOW MAKER (Ch. Wakefield Dandelion x Corgards Make Your Mark) Breeders/Owners: Kandy L. Boll & Michele L. Pohl. Red and white again of quality but in a larger mould than those above. 2. HONEYFOX BET ON BERTHA (Ch. Honeyfox Secret Love x Ch. Putnam’s Applause Please) Breeders/Owners: Susan Strickland & Patricia Taylor. Sable and white who I would have preferred to have more length. A little short in neck. Feminine head. Not as much drive on the move as the winner.
3. TERENELF’S GRAND BUFFET (Ch. Brynlea It’s All About Me x Terenelf’s Foxy Finer Dinner) Breeder/Owner: Lois E. Kay. Red and white in a larger mould and higher on leg than those above. Would prefer a darker eye to give a sweeter expression. Adequate movement.

4. OAKWIND BELAIRE NAUGHTY N NICE (Ch. Sandfox Running Free x Oakwind’s Honor and Glory) Breeder: Carra Cole. Owners: Gloria Hansen & Carra Cole. A feminine tricolour with a lovely feminine head piece. Once again would prefer a slightly darker eye. Was a little unsettled today which affected her movement.

1. CH. HALLMARKS OLYMPIAN (Ch. Aubrey Brookhaven Outlandsh x Hallmarks Snickers) Breeders: Midge Ruscak & Valerie Brown. Owners: Cynthia & Vincent Savioli & Midge Ruscak. A tricolour gentleman of outstanding breed type and quality. Very good masculine head without any hint of coarseness and lovely dark eye. His movement around the ring was very good and he held his topline on the move. To fault him slightly I would prefer a more oval foot. Shown in sparkling condition he was a credit to his owners and I was very pleased to award him AWARD OF MERIT
2. CH. HONEYFOX STARSTRUCK (Larklain Starlight Nobel x Ch. Ercildown Run With The Wind) Breeder: Susan Strickland. Owner: Virginia C. Fitzgerald. However, once again a credit to his owner for having him in such good condition.

1. CH. HERONSWAY VELVET MOON (Ch. Nebriowa Jovan x Heronsway Skyview Moonglow) Breeders: Karen Butterworth & Anne Bowes. Owner: Donna M. Gilbert. A quality tricolour lady who belied her years. 2. CH. HONEYFOX SUGAR N SPICE (Ch. Honeyfox Starstruck x Ch. Honeyfox Naughty Nutmeg) Breeder: Susan Strickland. Owner: Sharon Birkbeck. Red and white lady who was obviously enjoying her outing. Not quite the substance of my winner. She was very lovingly handled.

AUBREYS FOREVER N FOR ALWAYS
(Ch. Dwynella Take A Chance x Aubrey Oakwind Abbey Road)
Breeders: Roberta Lord & Cynthia & Vincent Savioli.
Owners: Cynthia & Vincent Savioli.
In the Best of Breed competition my eye was drawn to my Winners Bitch over and over. She again impressed me with her outstanding breed type and quality and as she moved around the ring her fluid movement was a joy to watch. I felt she could not be denied Best of Breed and I would have dearly loved to have put her in my suitcase and brought her back home.

BEST OF OPPOSITE
CH. AURORA ARCHERY SUMMIT
(Ch. Sandyshire’s The Phantom x Aurora Tell Me True)
Breeders: M. VanVleit & D. Newton.
Owners: Sandra J. Wolfskill & D. Francis.
Quality tricolour who was all male without being coarse. Presented a balanced outline. Lovely male head and expression. Good strong topline which he held on the move. When gaited his movement coming and going was true and moved with good sidegait. A male which I feel has a lot to offer the breed.

I would like to make special comment on this Select of Merit. A red and white of lovely breed type and quality and who was very close to my Best of Breed. A most feminine head piece and sweet expression. Very good movement both coming and going and side gait. Just slackened off in topline occasionally. Had the desired “keel” Another outstanding bitch.

2005 PUPPY SWEEPSTAKES

Best in SweepsJorash Foxway Showboat
Best of Opposite SweepsBrogan Canadien

carrie chase (hum’nbird)

I would like to thank the Garden State club for inviting me to judge your 10th annual Sweepstakes. Special thanks to ring stewards Terry Coughlin and Melody Kist, and to Judge’s Hospitality Chairs Mildred and Don Harris for your care during my visit. I loved the judge’s gift, handcrafted by Linda Ozelis.

I loved the temperaments of every corgi in the entry (especially the silly, playful ones), and the sportsmanship of all exhibitors. I was very pleased to award my Best in Sweepstakes and Best Opposite in Sweepstakes winners who both exhibited quality breed type from head to toe. However, dispersed throughout the entry I found corgis with small round eyes and inadequate neck length. Many lacked the free and smooth movement required by our breed standard. But, I was totally impressed by grooming, conditioning and handling at this event — not a long toenail nor dog in need of a bath was found! It was a pleasure to take part in your specialty and I wish all exhibitors best of luck in the future.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 6 MONTHS AND UNDER 9 MONTHS, DOGS (2 exhibited)

1. HONEYFOX JOHNNY ANGEL (Elfwish Sweet Talkin Guy x Honeyfox Summer Day) Breeder/Owner: Susan Strickland. Red and white male with correct body outline and good overall balance. Neck flowed nicely into well placed shoulders. He had correctly shaped feet and adequate bone for his size. Effortless mover who wanted to please his handler.
2. CALISTA’S PAINTED BLACK (Ch. Foxlor Shafrhaus Sammy Sosa x Ch. Caralon Calista Yes I Can) Breeders: John & Gaye Georges. Owners: John & Gaye Georges & John McCormack. Red headed tri color with remarkably extended sidegait. Good bone and overall size. Hopefully his body will deepen and his backskull will broaden with age.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 9 MONTHS AND UNDER 12 MONTHS, DOGS (1 exhibited)

1. WOODBINE FLASHY ALIBI (Ch. Nebriowa Double Exposure x Ch. Kingscote Woodbine Alibi) Breeders: E. Sessions & R. Bence. Owners: Elizabeth Sessions & Kathy & Scott Shinall. Striking red and white male with full white collar. He excelled in head type with correct muzzle to backskull proportions, large well placed dark eyes, and excellent pigment. Good front reach and held his topline when moving. Kept his handler working today.

SWEEPSTAKES 12 TO 15 MONTH, DOGS (2 exhibited)

1. BRUMBAER’S TWENTY TWENTY (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Ch. Brunswig’s Fiona Apple) Breeders/Owners: Susan King & Karen Fruhmann. Red and white male low to ground with lots of body length and depth. Strong bone down to his feet. He had good muzzle to backskull proportions. Would prefer a larger eye and higher ear set. Excellent temperament and well presented.
2. ARBOR PLAY FOR KEEPS (Ch. Arbor Festiniog Voyager x Ch. Just Enuff Arbor Frolic) Breeders: K. Broska & S. Klar. Owner: Ellen Schusterson. Red headed tri color male with good bone and correctly shaped feet. Higher on leg and less body than the above. Would prefer larger ear and wider backskull. Moved with his head high over his back today, which caused a dip in his topline.

SWEEPSTAKES 15 TO 18 MONTH, DOGS (1 exhibited)

1. BROGAN CANADIEN (Ch. Stonecroft’s Second Sight x Ch. Brogan Bells Chime) Breeder/Owner: Mari Fleming Carroll. Red and white male of exceptional quality. Correct head shape and proportions, excellent eye and ear placement. Lovely neck length and shape that fit nicely into well placed shoulders. Good stifle angulation, excellent body depth and length, with the ideal amount of bone and short hocks. Pleased to reward his beautiful breed type today. BEST of OPPOSITE to BEST in SWEEPSTAKES

Adequate headpiece; would prefer a larger ear and more refinement in muzzle. Her sound structure and effortless movement earned her the class win.
2. KIDWELLY’S GIRL FRIDAY (Ch Rosewood Yankee Clipper x Ch. Aubrey’s Buy Me A Rose) Breeder/Owner: Richard Burd. Red and white bitch well bodied up for her age. Good height to length ratio. Sound, workmanlike mover who held her topline standing and on the move.
3. AUBREY’S KISSED BY THE BOYS (Ch. Dalarno Moondance Magic Brew x Aubrey’s Enchanting Spirit) Breeders/Owners: Cynthia & Vincent Savioli & Mary Weatherspoon. Charming red headed tri color with a lovely headpiece. Not the topline or substance of the above. She was in a very silly mood for her handler today!
4. XIII MAPLES NO DOUBT AT AVALON (Ch. Tallyrand Doubting Thomas x Ch. Readfield Moon O’er XIII Maples) Breeders: Ellen Childs & Marianne Read. Owners: Jane Rainsford & Ellen Childs & Ellen Jayne Craig. Light red and white bitch with correct height to length proportions. Just the right size. Plush coat and overall picture. Good feet and substance. A bit high in rear and rolling over the loin on the move today.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 9 MONTHS AND UNDER 12 MONTHS, BITCHES (2 exhibited)

1. TRESAITHS POPPIT SANDS JUBILEE (Ch. Sandyshire Summer Jubilee x Ch. Tresaiths Glenys Goes For Gold, PT, NAJ) Breeders/Owners: Janet & Bill Richardson. Flashy red and white bitch with excellent outline, body proportions and firm back that she held while covering the ground efficiently. Adequate bone for size. Attractive headpiece of correct proportions.
2. WALBORAH BROGAN WHIMSEY (Ch. Windcrest Pilgrim Pride x Brogan Walborah Winter Park) Breeders/Owners: Deborah S. Harper & Mari Fleming Carroll. Red and white bitch with medium body length. A bit higher on leg than the first place bitch. Lovely overall quality, good bone, substance, and an attractive headpiece. Wish her topline was a bit firmer. She kept her handler busy today.

SWEEPSTAKES 12 TO 15 MONTH, BITCHES (3 exhibited)

1. JORASH FOXWAY SHOWBOAT (Ch. Arbor Festiniog Privateer x Foxway Jorash Royal Traveler) Breeder/Owner: Ellen Schusterson. Red and white bitch with heavy coat. Entered the ring a bit unsure of her whereabouts and the identity of her new handler, but recovered nicely. This quality young bitch had excellent flow from her correctly arched neck through smooth, well-laid shoulders. Good prosternum, excellent ribbing, strong topline, and solid hindquarters. Her substance, bone and body proportions were ideal for her size. Her free, purposeful movement reflected her sound structure. She had a feminine headpiece with lovely dark, oval eyes. I forgave her slightly low ear set and wished for a bit more stop. Her movement was purposeful, effortless, and clean coming and going. I loved going over her on the table–her superior structure could allow her to work effortlessly all day. BEST in SWEEPSTAKES
2. MOOSEHILL CAN’T STOP LOV’N EWES (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Putnams Oh So Chic) Breeder/Owner: Carla Hellander. Red and white bitch of larger size with excellent bone and substance. She was a wonderfully trained showgirl and caught my eye immediately upon entering the ring. Good body depth, strong topline, and exceptional front reach on the move. I wished for more neck length and a more feminine headpiece.
3. AUBREY’S JUST FOR FUN (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Aubrey’s Enchanting Moments) Breeders: Cynthia & Vincent Savioli. Owners: Roberta M. Lord & Cynthia & Vincent Savioli. A red and white bitch who left her coat at home this week. Very showy and well trained. Held her topline nicely. Attractive headpiece. Not the movement or substance of those above her today.

SWEEPSTAKES 15 TO 18 MONTH, BITCHES (5 exhibited)

1. LASTSTOP SOSA SENSATIONAL (Ch. Foxlor Shafrhaus Sammy Sosa x Ch. Laststop Bump In The Night) Breeder: Carol Dowd. Owners: Ellen Schusterson & Carol Dowd. Red and white bitch with plush coat. Excellent structure, substance and movement. Her head, eye, and ear were quite attractive and correct but she had a distracting large ‘dollop’ of white on her backskull.
2. XIII MAPLES SELENE ON TOWNHILL (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Ch. Readfield Moon O’er XIII Maples) Breeders: Ellen Childs & Marianne Read. Owner: Ellen C. Childs. Quality red and white bitch with lovely substance, bone and feet. Feminine headpiece, good back and outline. A bit shorter in body than the one above. Lazy today and as a result not wanting to make the most of herself when moving.
3. PEMBURY HOUSE MARIE ANTOINETTE (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Ch. Pot O’Gold Visions of A Sunset) Breeders: Sandi Eaton & Barb Sheppard. Owners: Cynthia A. Rusakovich & Sandi Eaton. A smaller red and white bitch with good proportions and length. Attractive outline, headpiece and topline. Wished for a longer stride when viewed from the side. Groomed and handled to perfection.
4. PEMBURY HOUSE HAUTE COUTURE (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Ch. Pot O’Gold Visions of A Sunset) Breeders: Sandi Eaton & Barbara Sheppard. Owners: Donna L. Reardon & Sandi Eaton. Larger red and white bitch with long, low body. Good bone, feet and stifle angulation. Well trained, groomed and handled.
