It was with great pleasure that I accepted an opportunity to judge your Garden State match and I was delighted to find some very nice youngsters exhibited. Garden State always shows the way in hospitality and I very much appreciated the wonderful lunch and the gift certificate. The weather co-operated although some of the little pups didn’t and why should they on such a nice fall day? A few exhibits needed manicures but on the whole were very nicely presented. I did notice a number of longer muzzles, which seems to be an increasing problem in our breed. I would hope that breeders take special note of desirable head type in the future. Following are a few comments on the individual entries:
— Mari Fleming Carroll
4-6 Month Puppy Dogs (2 entered)
1. Brunswig’s Face the Music (CH Tallyrand No Greater Love X Brunswig’s Cordelia) Breeder/Owner: Phyllis Farrer. A sable boy with a darling face. He has nice short hocks and a very plush coat. His topline is somewhat off at this stage. I expect he will lengthen as he grows. A promising boy.
2. Deerfield’s Gambler’s Luck (CH Adurlands Gamblers Glee of Brynelli X High Flyer Blackmint) Breeders: Marilyn Cellucci, William Cellucci, Emma and Ralph Kovach. Owner: Marilyn Cellucci. Tri-color boy with nice markings and very good length. He carries much less coat than the class winner and has considerable length of foreface and not a lot of stop. He has an excellent show attitude in the ring.
6-9 Month Puppy Dog (1 entered)
1. Aubrey’s Back N My Arms Again (CH Aubrey Brookehaven Outlandish X CH Pinemeade Watercolors) Breeders/Owners: Cynthia & Vincent Savioli. A red and white boy of attractive type, except for considerable muzzle. He has a nice shoulder and good reach and drive. Very well presented he had flowing reach of neck that caught the eye.
9-12 Month Puppy Dog (1 entered)
1. Aubrey Oakwind Armful of Fun (CH Elfwish Leprechaun X Aubrey’s Victorian Lace) Breeders: Carra Cole, Cynthia & Vincent Savioli. Owners: Cynthia and Vincent Savioli. This sturdy red boy had an attractive head, good body length and wonderful bone. He is very masculine for his age and exhibited nice balance on the move. I would like to see more reach of neck but he has a lot of growing and developing to do.
Open Dogs (1 entered)
1. Tenbay’s All My Loving (CH Tallyrand No Greater Love X CH Aubrey’s In the Vogue) Breeders/Owners: Roberta Lord, Cynthia & Vincent Savioli. An eye-catching Black-headed Tricolor in lovely coat. He is a young dog that has some wonderful attributes. He is low-stationed with correct head proportions, excellent bone and is a picture on the table. He appears to be in excellent muscle-tone and certainly high energy on the move. I suspect if he could relax a little while gaiting he would exhibit better drive off the ground. His wonderful layback and shoulder assembly were exactly what I was looking for and I was very pleased to award him BEST ADULT and BEST in MATCH.
2-4 Month Puppy Bitches (2 entered)
1. Emma (CH Hum’nbird Keepn Up’ Pearances X Foxway Corgard Image Maker) Breeders/Owners: Michelle Pohl, Kandy Boll and Sandra Mottes. A darling little baby with a very cute head and lots of pretty neck. Red/White with some sabling, she had a very nice coat and quite nice layback. There was no way she could manage more than a few trotting steps so we can only guess about movement.
2. Tory (CH Hum’nbird Keepn Up’ Pearances X Foxway Corgard Image Maker)
Breeders/Owners: Michelle Pohl, Kandy Boll and Sandra Mottes. Littermate to No. 1 and very similar in many ways. To be slightly critical she did not have the nice angles of her sister although her head is equally fetching. She looks a bit wide in front at this stage and was also not very interested in gaiting although she had a down stay perfected.
4-6 Month Puppy Bitches (5 entered)
1. Bruswig’s Fiona Apple (CH Tallyrand No Greater Love X Brunswig’s Cordelia) Breeder Phyllis Farrer. Owners: Sue King, Karen Fruhmann, Phyllis Farrer. A red/white girl with an exceptional coat and very nice type. She has a cute foxy expression, although I would like a larger eye, and is correctly long and low. At this stage of development she is quite high in the rear and I would like to see her a pound or two lighter although I suspect as she grows up she will lose some of this baby look.
2. Corgard’s Smooth Cruisin’ (CH Foxlor Shaferhaus Sammy Sosa X CH Corgard Cocktails N Cruisin) Breeder/Owners: Kandy Boll & Michelle Pohl. I preferred this red/white girl’s head to that of the class winner. Her sabling is very attractive and she had a good rear movement and hock flexion going away. I would like to see a better layback of shoulder. A promising puppy, I wish we had shorter grass so I could have seen her movement more clearly on this day.
3. Deerfield’s Daddy’s Delight (CH Adurlands Gamblers Glee of Brynelli X High Flyer Blackmint) Breeders: Marilyn Cellucci, Emm and Ralph Kovach MD. Owner: Marilyn Cellucci. A red-headed Tricolor who was the best mover in the class. She has a flowing sidegait and good balance. At this point she seems somewhat high on leg and a little wide coming at me. I suspect this girl has some real promise and could mature into a very nice showgirl.
4. Corgard’s Comin’ Back Cruisin (CH Foxlor Shaferhaus Sammy Sosa X CH Corgard Cocktails N Crusin) Breeders/Owners: Kandy Boll and Michele Pohl. Another red-headed tricolor, littermate to No. 2 who has less length than her sister. An attractive youngster she seems to be in a “stage” where she needs forechest and is traveling a little wide in front. She may change considerably as she matures and both may be corrected.
6-9 Month Puppy Bitches (2 entered)
1. Aubrey’s Buy Me a Rose (CH Aubrey Brookehaven Outlandish X CH Pinemeade Watercolors) Breeders: Cynthia & Vincent Savioli. Owners: Richard Burd & Cynthia and Vincent Savioli. This red/white girl has an exceptional profile standing and excellent sidegait that is balanced and flowing. I kept coming back to her and think she has a very nice future ahead of her. While her head was not my favorite, as I felt it lacked sufficient stop, she pushed very hard for Best Puppy. Her owner must be very happy to have such a promising puppy.
2. Tresaith’s Dream on the River Teifi (Woodhenge Dream Maker X Tresaith Lamin Scandalous) Breeder/Owners: Janet & Bill Richardson. A red-headed tricolor whose head I preferred over the class winner. At this stage her topline is off and I would prefer more turn of stifle. She covered the ground very well from the side but was a bit close behind going away.
9-12 Month Puppy Bitches (3 entered)
1. Aubrey Oakwind Abbey Road (CH Elfwish Leprechaun X Aubrey’s Victorian Lace) Breeders: Carra Cole, Cynthia & Vincent Savioli. Owners: Cynthia & Vincent Savioli. Red and White girl with exceptional bone and coat. She presented a lovely picture standing and I preferred her head over the other two pups. Low stationed, she covered the ground with ease. A substantial puppy, I was pleased to award her BEST PUPPY.
2. Tallyrand Devoted To You (CH Tallyrand Archangel Michael X CH Tallyrand Consider the Lillies) Breeders/Owners: Joseph and Lois Zelenski. This red/white girl presented a pleasing outline and nice rear angles. I found her eye somewhat round and would like to see a stronger underjaw. Although she has a short upper arm, she does have an excellent topline. A high energy girl, she provides her handler with a good deal of fun.
3. Foxway Lace on Lace (CH Perrymist Red Affair X Jimanies Irish Lace) Breeders: Sherryn Viebrock and Sandra Mottes. Owner: Kandy Boll. Another very nice red/white girl in the most competitive class of the day. Nicely presented, this girl was very well trained and showed herself to advantage. I preferred the heads of 1 and 2 and found this well developed girl a little higher on leg. However I expect she will do very well in the show ring as she seems to really enjoy it.
12-18 Junior Bitches (2 entered)
1. Aubrey’s Zinnia (CH Tallyrand No Greater Love X Aubrey’s In the Vogue) Breeders/Owners: Roberta Lord, Cynthia & Vincent Savioli. A red litter sister to the Best in Match who is extremely nice in her own right. She has a gorgeous neck and topline and a pleasing head. Her proportions are very nice and while I’d like a longer upper arm she did have very nice angles. On this day she was trying to blow most of her coat.
2. Foxwillow Sophie Beloved (none provided) Breeder: John Walsh DVM. Owners: John and Debra Rogers. This red girl had a very sweet head and expression. She appeared to move closely behind going away and today her topline seemed to fall off at the croup. I suspect she is just coming back into coat and that held her back today in this company.
OBEDIENCE HIGHEST SCORING IN MATCH
Datelis Outrider (Ch. Aubrey Brookehaven Outlandish X Ch. Datelis Givenchy O’Balgaire) Breeders: Susan E. Ellis & Ruth L. Lerda. Owner: Carol Black.
