I would like to thank the Show Committee and members of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Garden State for inviting me to judge in place of Alan Matthews. The weather was perfect. The hospitality was outstanding. The boat house on the lake where the dinner was held not only had wonderful views of boats and sculls passing by but served good cuisine as well. It was the perfect setting for relaxing and being with corgi friends.

He has a good outline, He wasn’t much for gaiting on the day. Likes to look up at his mom which throws his front all over. I preferred the head and outline of #1 on the day.

I did not care for his outline (topline). He rises over the loin and drops off with a low croup set giving a roached appearance.

I would like to thank the Garden State club for inviting me to judge your Sweepstakes and many thanks to all of the exhibitors for trusting your puppies to me — and on such a windy, windy day. You were all wonderful sports about the “breeze” blowing through the tent and the puppies were troopers. And many thanks to the club for my wonderful judge’s gift — it will be treasured.
Your puppies were presented in wonderful condition and looked lovely. Good fronts and rears were the order of the day, as were nice dark eyes. Feet also looked very nice. There were a couple of even bites — which are allowable — and some beautiful outlines. There was much to like about the entry and my Best in Sweeps and Best of Opposite made me very happy. There were many promising youngsters being shown and I am sure placements will change as these puppies mature. Good luck to all of you.

He had a nice masculine head which was very expressive with a dark eye and correct proportions; a lovely arched neck and a beautiful forechest. Happy to make him my BEST of OPPOSITE in SWEEPSTAKES.

SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 6 MONTHS AND UNDER 9 MONTHS, BITCHES (5 exhibited)
This was a lovely, lovely class and I am sure that placements will be traded many times as these youngsters mature.
1. HERONSWAY COCKATOO RIDGE (Ch. Aberlee Phantom Sequence x Ch. Heronsway Heritage Born Free) Breeders: A. Bowes & J. Pilat. Owner: Anne H. Bowes. Light red and white puppy that took my breath away. She came into the ring and proved she owned it. She never put a foot wrong nor let up. She had everything I would want in a bitch. On the table she had the most beautiful outline, beautiful expression, lovely length to height ratio, correct bone for her size. On the move, she covered the ground purposefully with good reach and drive. She was clean coming and going. And, she was the correct size for a bitch her age. Her breeders are to be congratulated on a lovely, lovely bitch. I was very happy to award her BEST in SWEEPSTAKES.
2. PUTNAM SMARTY’S RUN FOR THE ROSES (Ch. Honeyfox Smarty Jones x Putnam Dazzling Encounter) Breeder: J. McCormick. Owner: Mary Ann Jones. Red and white puppy that was a bit longer in muzzle and a little heavier than I like. She covered the ground adequately and showed a nice front coming at me. A quality puppy that, I am sure, will do well.
3. GREENWOODS SANDFOX KARMA (Dwynella Made By Design x Ch. Sandfox Destiny) Breeders: V. Sandage & D. Rodgers. Owners: Deidre Rodgers & Mary Greenwood & Vicki Sandage. Red and white youngster with a lovely outline and nice length. On the day, she had a slight roach in her topline and tended to cross over in the front coming at me. I am sure this will change as she matures. Nice angles and lovely forechest. Another quality puppy.
4. CRYSTAL CINNAMON GIRL (Ch. Tallyrand Our Daily Bread x Crystal American Girl) Breeders/Owners: Karen M. & Samuel Baker. This red/white youngster tended to cross over behind and was a little smaller. Her topline also tended to go down hill which will probably change as she grows on.
SWEEPSTAKES PUPPY 9 MONTHS AND UNDER 12 MONTHS, BITCHES (2 exhibited)
1. BIRCH HILL WYNDTREE NUALA QUEEN OF THE FAIRIES (Ch. Byendebrok Maplecreek Baccarat, CD HSAs MX MXJ x Birch Hill Christmas Spirit) Breeders: P. & J. Wiedel. Owners: Pati Wiedel & Teresa Mulhausen. Red-headed tri puppy that was a little close behind today. This was a very nice puppy that, although she had a shorter upper arm, moved around the ring with reach and drive and covered the ground well. She had a nice front, forechest and neck with lovely length. A beautiful outline.
2. BIRCH HILL WYNDTREE NATALIE WOULD (Ch. Byendebrok Maplecreek Baccarat, CD HSAs MX MXJ x Birch Hill Christmas Spirit) Breeders: J. & P. Wiedel. Owners: Pati Wiedel & Teresa Mulhausen. I see this red and white puppy is the sister to the first place puppy and there are many similarities. However, this puppy was shorter in length and doesn’t have the beautiful neck of her sister and was a little straighter in front. She also lacked the movement of her sister today.
SWEEPSTAKES 12 TO 15 MONTH, BITCHES (6 exhibited)
1. PEMBURY HOUSE NUTMEG GINGHAM (Ch. Sandfox Skywalker At XIII Maples x Ch. Pembury House Premonition) Breeder/Owner: Sandi Eaton. I see this red-headed tri girl is a sister to my Best of Opposite and there are many similarities. This was a lovely puppy that presented me with a nice outline, expressive face. On the move she exhibited very nice side gait moving with reach and drive and holding her topline around the ring.
2. CORGARD JORASH SWEET LORENA (Ch. Jorash Foxway Graceland x Corgard Caribbean Breeze) Breeders: M. Pohl & K. Boll. Owners: Michele L. Pohl & Ellen Schusterson & Kandy Boll. Red and white youngster who was a nice size but wasn’t overly happy to be here. Lovely long neck. Her front assembly could have been further under her and she didn’t cover the ground as well as the first placed bitch.
3. BROGAN WALBORAH WINSOME (Ch. Jorash Foxway Graceland x Walborah Brogan Whimsey) Breeders/Owners: Mari Carroll & Deborah Harper. Red and white youngster who was presented in lovely condition. I would like a little more eye make-up if I were to be picky. Not as much reach and drive as the first place puppy.
4. CORGARD MAKING MOMENTS INTO MEMORIES (Ch. Lost River Tri’d N Tru Irish Mist x Corgard Memories of A Legacy) Breeders/Owners: Kandy L. Boll & Michele Pohl. Red and white youngster. Lovely movement and she held her topline while going around the ring. She was a little taller than the previous placements and I preferred the heads of the previous youngsters.
SWEEPSTAKES 15 TO 18 MONTH, BITCHES (1 exhibited)
1. HERONSWAY WITNESS TO HISTORY (Ch. Ryslip History Boy x Ch. Heronsway Circus Circus) Breeder/Owner: Anne H. Bowes. This red and white youngster was clean coming and going. Her length to height ratios could have been better and her topline was off on the day.
